About

A pic of adventurous Layla sitting on her fav possession: a 2017 Jeep Wrangler.

Here is a little background:

Coding is something I’ve been doing for the last 8-10 years, ever since my first high school computer science class. Even while pursuing other possibilities, I’ve always kept up with the newest technologies simply out of pure curiosity and interest in the field. I'm passionate about many creative pursuits, including photography, art, design, and of course, coding. Additionally, I love a good challenge. This combination of interests is what ultimately led me to my current career in software engineering. I love building for the web. From something as simple as a single HTML file – all the way to large React and Next.js applications. The web is incredible. I can become a developer, writer, creator or I can just build. It’s a place of literally endless possibilities and that’s what I love about it.

Projects

Project 1 of 5: Door Hopper

This is a current project that I'm working on at Tracer Labs. Door Hopper is an innovative application designed specifically for door-to-door sales professionals. Developed as a ReactJS client-side rendered application, it seamlessly integrates with Firebase for a robust backend infrastructure. Leveraging the power of Material UI, the app provides a fast and efficient prototyping experience. Additionally, Door Hopper takes advantage of Google Maps to enhance its functionalities.

Tools Used:
React
Javascript
Rest APIs

Project 2 of 5: Layla's Portfolio

With my portfolio, I wanted to make sure all of the visitors to my little corner of the world were able to feel the fun and passion I had while making this website. I utilized Sanity.io and its GROQ queries/incredible CMS capabilities to power the backend. One of the cool things I did with it is Incremental Static Regeneration which allows easy updating of contents from anywhere in the world- without needing to redeploy with each update. I optimized NextJS and React to their FULL potential to build a website which loads in milliseconds with a beautiful, responsive frontend thanks to Tailwind CSS. The silky smooth animations were made possible with Framer Motion for a unique & breathtaking UI/UX experience. Additionally, the contact page allows me to receive messages from the website directly to my existing Gmail inbox letting me to be connected to all my welcome visitors. Let me know what you think by sending me a message!

Project 3 of 5: Tripper

Tripper is the ultimate platform for all one's travel needs. We provide an easy-to-use service that helps to plan, organize, and share trips with friends and family. With Tripper, one can discover new destinations, create personalized itineraries, and track travel memories all in one place. For Tripper, I collaborated with another developer to build Javascript queries/routers in order to utilize FastAPI while implementing React components and Redux slices for a beautiful front-end. MongoDB was installed manually through the backend to keep record of all users and trip information. I implemented secure authentication in the backend using JWT for session-based redirection on FastAPI routes. An external API, Pexels API, was leveraged to automatically populate pictures of the destinations based on the user's input. Additionally I wrote unit tests to evaluate the software for bugs and operating speed, fixing bugs and documenting processes to increase efficiency by 18%.

Tools Used:
FastAPI
React
MongoDB
Bootstrap
Javascript
GIT
JWT

Project 4 of 5: AutoScape

AutoScape is a platform made for automobile dealerships to keep track of automobile inventory as well as sales records and service appointments. For this project, I designed and developed RESTful APIs using a Django backend to allow for efficient data retrieval and manipulation. Polling was leveraged to ensure data integrity and syncing between three databases linked to four microservices. I implemented form submission for client-side appointment scheduling and search/filter components to enhance user experience and increase website traffic. The sales management module is a user-friendly interface built using React, allowing dealerships to easily add and delete vehicle sales from the system, as well as keep track of all salesperson records. Comprehensive code reviews were conducted in combination with actionable feedback, resulting in a 35% decrease in post-release bug reports.

Tools Used:
Django
Python
React
Bootstrap
Insomnia
GIT
Docker
PostgreSQL
Rest APIs

Project 5 of 5: Peers Meet

My goal with Peers Meet was to establish an easy-to-use, quick platform to keep track of tasks and goals for individual and/or group projects. To accomplish this, I developed a Project and Task Manager application using the Django framework, allowing users to create, edit, and delete projects and tasks through form submission. I created and implemented a project management system to streamline workflow, including task creation, assignment, and tracking; increased team efficiency and decreased project completion time. Additionally, I enhanced web application security and user experience by implementing Django's authentication system; decreased unauthorized access by 75% through a secure login, logout, and sign-up components.
